Scituate is a small to mid-sized
seacoast community of
approximately 17,000 residents. It is located almost an equal
distance between Boston and
Plymouth.
In the 375 years since its incorporation, it has evolved from a summer
colony to a residential community, but has managed to retain some of the
flavor of its past.
In 1810, the United
States Congress voted $4000 to build a lighthouse at Scituate Harbor. The
lighthouse was activated in 1811, and is one of the
most
famous landmarks in Scituate today.
